We came across a really interesting article on Fast Company today, which talked about reaching the once elusive “connected consumer”. Essentially, the article stated that the impact of technology on business and consumer behavior has changed the landscape in which we should approach consumers. We all know this is true, so it’s time to act accordingly.
Here at rVue, we've said for a long time that consumers expect more out of their “relationships” with brands. Throwing up a static billboard or a print ad just won’t work the way it used to for the connected consumer. This type of audience wants links to more information or to be able to share the information with their network of friends, at the least. It goes far beyond social media, though, to a consumer behavioral shift.
The article says that connected consumers are not “blindly seeking information, they’re reliant on the right information finding them, in the right places.” Enter: digital signage. This is what the industry is all about, right? A medium practically designed for the connected consumer… to hand them the right information, at the right time. And to go further, we can pinpoint the type of audience an advertiser wants to reach, with the right information, at the right time. Our Audience Mindset’s were designed specifically around this thought and now is the time to really start utilizing this powerful way of targeting.
The article goes on to explain that the connected audience is actually an “audience with an audience” since they’re constantly sharing their likes with their network and are always digitally “on”. With advertisers beginning to use interactive components in their ads, such as QR codes and social media sharing tools, advertisers can reach beyond impacting one person with their branding and begin to reach the connected consumers of 2012.
