With over 9 million views on YouTube, in just over a month, Corning's vision for the future features a life filled with interactive glass, making life's tasks extraordinarily easy. Originally created with the intent of helping investors understand the possibilities of glass, the video has become a YouTube viral success.
Its agency, Doremus, says the video was designed "to inspire largely Corning's big investors as to the applications of glass into electronics and into our everyday lives," an agency rep tells Marketing Daily. The video, which you can view below, is reminiscent of Tom Cruise running around an interactive world in Minority Report. The video is realistic looking and may not be so far from the future as we think. While the video shows predominately Digital In-Home Media, Digital Out-of-Home glass fixtures are closer than we think.
iBurger, a new burger joint in Montreal, Quebec, is serving up the classic comfort food by way of ordering via interactive touch screen built in to the tables. The high-tech tables were designed by the restaurant owners with Microsoft Surface. The technology uses 40 inch Samsung SUR40 that can be used as a table, on the wall, or embedded in other fixtures or furniture. The restaurant owners went an extra step of designing the fixtures themselves to withstand the spills, dropped utensils and anything else it's patrons can toss at it. The surface uses PixelSense™ which allows Microsoft Surface to see and respond to touch, and real world objects—supporting more than 50 simultaneous inputs.
You can find Microsoft Surface debuting at Clinique Make-Up counters in the future, further bringing this technology to the retail experience. It's only a matter of time until the technology used to create the touch screen retail environments is advanced to using glass surfaces.
