Lamar Advertising is donating digital billboards in Las Vegas and California to help identify the two people described as person of interest in a murder case, reports the Las Vegas Sun. Images of the two suspects will be plastered across the billboards across Las Vegas and various counties in California.
While this is a horrific story, it brings to light the positive impact that Digital Out-Of-Home platforms can serve in a community. DOOH billboards can be used to not only catch criminals, but to install other safety measures, such as issuing AMBER Alerts.
Currently, AMBER Alerts are distributed via fax, email, wireless devices and news media. And millions of people are still missing out on the messages. By using digital billboards to instantly publish AMBER alerts (or any other important message), networks can help law enforcement find missing children quicker. Statistics show the first three hours after a child's abduction are most critical to recovery efforts. And by broadcasting alerts in places such as sports arena's, airports, shopping malls, gas stations, billboards, highway traffic signs (which are currently being utilized) and many other locations we're reaching a wider audience much faster. It's likely we'll see much more of this type usage for DOOH in the near future.
